Eric Bettens

Eric BETTENS is a Belgian artist, passionate about the music that has given rhythm to his life since he was very young. Today, in addition to film sound and the composition of instrumental and orchestral works, he combines electronic and acoustic instruments with sounds captured in nature to compose eclectic and original works that have earned him many prestigious awards.

Eric BETTENS' musical career began in 2001, when Luc Baiwir encouraged him to present NYDHIS at the World Festival of Underwater Pictures in Antibes, France. Conquered, the jury awards him the François de Roubaix prize, the highest musical award of the festival. Eric's style is asserted and seduced. Since 2002, he has provided soundtracks for nearly a hundred films, plays and stage music, several of which have won awards at international festivals (Antibes, Marseille, Strasbourg, Istanbul, Moscow, Singapore, Manila, Hollywood, etc.).

More and more in demand to realize large scale "Sound and Light" concerts, Eric Bet- tens likes to mix his music with various disciplines and techniques (video, pyrotechnics, lasers, dance,...) in order to offer to the public a varied and quality visual. Thus in Belgium he gave a concert for the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Strepy-Thieu elevators, for the reopening of the Castle of Trazegnies, for the commemoration of the 6 PERIER mine shaft, for the reopening of the collegiate church of CINEY,... He has also performed in Lyon, Strasbourg, in the south of France, in Switzerland, in Singapore and in the Philippines where he gave a concert in honor and presence of the former president Mrs. Gloria Arroyo.

On several occasions, he has been invited as a jury member for documentary film festivals. He has also collaborated in the development of specialized software in the field of music notation and mixing.

In 2010, he composed his "operatorio" YVAIN, LE CHEVALIER LION, for choir, orchestra, 3 so- listes and narrator. This work was nominated, in November 2011, for the "Hollywood Music in Media Awards".

In parallel to his activities described above, Eric Bettens gives an important place to contemporary music. After many years of self-taught training, he entered the Royal Conservatory of Liège in 2011 and obtained a double Master's degree in composition and classical writing in 2016. His music has been performed by renowned ensembles such as "Musiques Nouvelles", "Sturm und Klang", the "TANA Quartet" and "Ensemble 21" during the Ars Musica festival.

His new creation for choir, orchestra, soloists, video and voice-over, based on the original libretto by Yvain STIENNON, "Ana's Memory, Requiem pour la Terre" will be produced soon.

Based on his creations, Eric BETTENS has been selected to attend a Master Class in Vienna, with Conrad Pope (Hollywood orchestrator who worked on Harry Potter, The Hob- bit, Godzilla, Salt, The last Airbender, The Wolfman....) and Nan Schwarz.

Eric Bettens is a professor in composition techniques, sound design and sound environment in Transmedia architecture (IMEP/HEAJ/UNAMUR), professor of music writing and Digital Music Creation.

In parallel, Eric Bettens has produced 5 albums with electronic and acoustic sounds: DIS- COVERY (2006), ENTRE CIEL ET MER (2009) EMPREINTE (2012), ANTARCTIC ODYSSEY (2014) and HORIZON (2020).
