Michèle Noiret's irrepressible desire to live and dance
« We could start... like this! » And off she goes into a techno hip-hop beat that's rather unexpected, like the whole show in which she takes us from surprise to surprise. (...) Dancer Michèle Noiret tells her story between fiction and reality in a captivating solo performance.
Michèle Noiret, renowned for her ‘cinematic dance’, likes to intertwine dance, music and video, but this time ‘Up Close’ favours text over video. At several times Michèle Noiret also speaks out, notably to denounce the diktat of youthism, especially with regard to the female body. At 63, she dances again and again, more magnificent than ever (...) with extreme concentration and perfectly controlled body placement to convey the desired intention and emotion. (...) Without any apparent links, the different tableaux in ‘Up Close!’ emerge like shards of a broken mirror, but each fragment of which, as they come together, gives us a better understanding of the woman behind the artist. A self-portrait challenging age and our times  In a subtle way, this solo is a multiple reflection on the body and the ageing of the dancer’s instrument. (...) Between the numerous verbal testimonies and despite the total absence of video, Michèle Noiret's body asserts its expressive power with incredible vitality. A body that is ‘more vulnerable but also more intelligent’, giving rhythm to the show with dance sequences of breathtaking beauty. An unprecedented choreography, her intimate signature for 40 years, a feline occupation of space, an ability to launch a movement and stop it "in flight". (...)
