Sounds of Baghdad — Qoutayba Neaimi

The Brussels Choral Society and the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a poignant and powerful concert of 3 pieces that celebrate the capacity for resilience and hope in the human spirit.
We will hear two of Brahms’ greatest choral works. The first, Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), which is a setting of Hölderlin's poem, wherein the tragedy of human destiny gives way to a shining conciliation, and secondly, his famous Ein deutsches Requiem (composed around the same time as Schicksalslied), where Brahms focuses on the consolation to be conferred upon the living in a text that is more deeply connected to the spiritual than to the religious.
This concert will also mark the world premiere of Sounds of Baghdad,  an evocation of the numerous faces of Baghdad, the origin of the composition of Belgian-Iraqi Qoutayba Neaimi.
