Pierre Boulez is without doubt one of the most important figures in twentieth-century music. His work and his writings, which span more than half a century, have left their mark on many musicians today, and continue to do so.
To mark the centenary of his birth, the Royal Conservatory of Liège, in partnership with the Belgian Society for Musical Analysis (SBAM), is devoting a day to paying tribute to the French composer and thinker.
The event will take place on Tuesday 25 March (precisely the anniversary of his birth) at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. The programme includes several lectures and a concert by the Sturm und Klang ensemble for the piece Dérive 1 and Zacharie Tavier for the Notations for piano.
The day will also provide an opportunity to present the work produced by Pascal Decroupet, which includes the correspondence between Pierre Boulez and Henri Pousseur, who, it should be remembered, made a major contribution to the reputation of the Liège Conservatoire under his direction.
