Paul Pankert : new CD : "Six solos" for the Belgian label Homerecords

In this album, Paul Pankert explores the dialogue between Baroque music and contemporary creation, combining violin and live electronics. Alternating works by Bach and Biber with his own compositions, he transforms Baroque forms by replacing the basso continuo with electronic sounds.

The original works Connected I, Breaking News and Partita Ritardata explore sound, media and form, and the album closes with Great Again, a rap reinvented in Renaissance polyphony. " Bach and Biber on violin, combined with live electronics: for some, this is truly blasphemous, because it sometimes seems as if Bach is being deliberately violated. And yet Belgian violinist and composer Paul Pankert manages to convince in his Six Solos for Violin & live electronics, because however crazy his improvisations may seem at times, they do indeed recall the essence of Bach's music, and personally, they made me extremely happy.

Baroque music and contemporary creation do indeed go very well together. Bach and Biber are interspersed with his own work, in which Baroque forms are transformed and the basso continuo is replaced by electronics. Amazing and, above all, great fun. Because although musical boundaries are explored, it is mainly the humour that appeals to me in this album. I found the closing polyphonic rap less successful, but fortunately it didn't last long. The violin work, however, is nothing short of phenomenal."
