„SON((O))SPHERE – Metropolis & The Myths” – Kawalerowie Błotni & Friends
A series of concerts accompanying the Polish Presidency in the European Union in the second half of 2011
Five European metropolis: Berlin, Brussels, Minsk, Moscow and Warsaw. Their distinguishing
features, similarities and differences. The shape and the spirit. Dimensions:
sensual - Dionysian and rational – Apollonian, considered with evocation of
“Myths” by Karol Szymanowski - Polish composer, visionary, ecstatic and the
modernist of the global culture of the first half of the 20th century.
The phenomenon of European capitals in concert vision of the Kawalerowie Błotni
group, bringing together musicians from Warsaw and their friends - musicians
who live in those cities. The performers unite composition with improvisation,
sound with image, archaic instruments with electronics, the contents with the
abstract. Their multimedia fresco deals with the human in different spaces and
one that is able to recognize him- or herself through different ideas. In this
concert, like in the labyrinth of alleys and meanings of the cities, there are points
that are defined and whole stretches of the unknown. To be named, to be felt collectively.
The SON((O))SPHERE concerts by Kawalerowie Błotni & Friends consist of sounds of the cities (transmitted live via microphones set outside the concert venues) weaved live into music composition, and also of other sounds, recorded earlier and transformed during the concert. The music performance is accompanied by special analog projections prepared particularly for, and referring to the history and present days of the city.
The musical piece entitled SON((O))SPHERE includes images, poetry and social ideas of the city. Its composition reflects the character of the place and refers to life in it – this is where the three thematic parts of the composition come from: Shape (illumination, shape, structure), Lure (sensuality, impression), solitude (loneliness, closure, isolation). Each of these parts is colored by quotes from Karol Szymanowski’s “Myths”, entitled: “The Fountain of Arethusa”, “Dryads and Pan” and “Narcissus”.

THE MUD CAVALIERS Group was formed in 2001. It has undertaken a series of intuitive actions and compositions created live in a variety of unusual circumstances, such as forests or meadows. Performances of the Mud Cavaliers combine free-jazz tradition with intuitive and composing activities. Therefore, the Group gathers specialists in shaping the musical space: playing, experienced composers, improvisers, and other hard-to-be-classified musicians, let’s call them: alternative. Meeting such a wide spectrum of musicians creates unique musical values.
The Group has already performed a dozen of premiere concerts, and has played at all of the major festivals of contemporary music in Poland (including: Warsaw Musical Meetings, Audio Art, Musica Polonica Nova, Warsaw Autumn, Ad Libitum, Chopin and his Europe, All Mazurkas of the World).
In collaboration with the Mud Cavaliers Group perform:
in the field of special active visual projections (analog) - Krzysztof Owczarek – Cinemanual
in the field of creative sound projection – Andrzej Kijanowski
