SPIRITUALS : Julie Gebhart (soprano), Nao Momitani (piano)

In the Babel of their contradictions, what do the elegant lines of the deeply moving Kaddish, the liberating words of African American spirituals, and the tender poetry of the Belgian writer Lucien Noullez — who recently passed away — all say in unison? Let us give way to the intertwined resonances of music, expressing beyond words what birds perhaps understand better than we do: those small intermediaries between humankind and God, as Olivier Messiaen believed.
