A naked body, abandoned on a table, left for dead. Yet it starts to breath, to move imperceptibly, it struggles, gets out of breath, suffers, resists.
This pièce could be seen as the various steps of a rebirth accompanied by bursts of energy, moments of absent-mindedness, agitated stages, and an uncertain outcome. Meanwhile, the machines are watching over, they scan and analyse...  The orchestral sounds are granular transformations taken from the first minute of the second movement of Beethoven 7th symphony.

Dedicated to Tom Nahon (1926-2009).
"Subternus" was composed at ARTeM studio (Art, Recherche, Technologie et Musique, Brussels) and was premiered on the 26th of February 2009 at the Espace Senghor in Brussels.
