One Heart Beep is part of a network of works called Beeps (including Beep/Test; Beep@loop/laps; Beep/box; Heart Beep Cello Core; and forthcoming works such as Beep/Trip; Heart Beep Guitar Core; and Beep/Beep), Each of these try to explore and magnify how urban sounds are shaping us. In other words: could I dance with the noise pollution present within this collective subconscious?
In a didactic project gathering different generations of musicians, writing a concerto grosso was plain to see: it was certainly about finding the balance between unity and multiplicity. But it was also, in the “Beep” context, dancing in the gap between them, like technology is – sometimes - between each of us. It’s in this time span I’m feeling alive: through the vitality of the pulse, one’s heartbeat reminds us tékhnē is at the core of humanity.
